Country Roads

Country Roads

Whenever I return home to Southern California, I am flooded with memories from my childhood: Recalling events, traditions, & influences that have made me who I am today.
My eye for design is without a doubt hereditary. I grew up watching my mom arrange & style our home: everything from how to present pillows on a couch, how to hang pictures on walls [groupings in odd numbers are always pleasing to the eye!], and how to prep & arrange a vase of freshly cut flowers. And not to mention: how to use a staple gun!
{why not reupholster seat cushions yourself right?}
My mom has been one of the greatest influences in my life. I don't think I'd be as bold when it comes to fixing up furniture, painting pieces, & just getting things accomplished if it wasn't for her.

And ooh, I look back at the times when she'd take me here: to
Country Roads Antiques & Gardens
a family owned business in the city of Orange, full of 70 unique vendors who display everything from quality antiques, vintage items, & my favorite, renovated furniture.

In my younger years, I would begrudgingly tag along. At the time, when it came to design influences, I lived for watching countless episodes of TLC's Trading Spaces  .. so a trip to Country Roads was really not on the radar.

But now, whenever I return home, I can't wait to go explore Country Roads! The tables have turned, & now my mom is the one who is finished looking before I am!

So here's a glimpse at one of my favorite, Southern California stops: Country Roads. Where I love to

Look & Learn

One of the newer additions to Country Roads is there impeccable display of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I am a huge fan of Annie Sloan's & have used her materials with most of my renovating projects thus far. This display of Annie Sloan's chalk paint was incredibly informative & gave me a better understanding of what each color looks like outside of the can.

And a cane back chair in Paris Grey : always a good choice.

Countless Parisian influences all around

And who doesn't love a big mirror?

They are the perfect design asset in order to expand a space & encourage light.

And how can I not be somewhat partial to a display full of pale pinks, satin, & tulle? They sure know how to make pointe shoes seem a lot more alluring when hanging o so delicately from a cluster of crystals.

The displays at Country Roads will without a doubt catch your eye. A lot of the vendors really know how to style their merchandise & create an atmosphere that allures the viewer into their little world. However, at the very back of the store, I discovered the remnants. The vendors who may leave pieces scattered about, in clumps or bins, leaving viewers up to accessing their own imaginations.

So meet me at the back of the store: that's where you'll find me dreaming.
