Crystals by Larissa
On a break from rehearsal, it's a common site to see dancers with a needle and thread in hand, sewing a pair of pointe shoes, or with their phones, answering e-mails & scrolling the web. But what I love about Larissa Kogut is that whenever I'd look over at her, I'd see her with a spool of wire & wire clippers at her side, refining and working on one of her beautiful creations.
Based in Northern California where Larissa has danced for companies such as Sacramento Ballet & Diablo Ballet, she began making jewelry out of her passion for geology & showcasing the beauty of nature. Over time, she developed a skill in wire wrapping, which allows her to put her own artistic touch on these beautiful crystals as she makes them become wearable pieces of art.
Larissa's jewelry is not only a work of art, but a labor of love. I was fortunate to witness her work first hand & hear her talk about all of the different steps she takes in order to make a piece complete. From envisioning a design, to sculpting the wire, securing the crystals, making a copper finish, Larissa does it all by hand and with meticulous attention to detail.
On her Etsy site , not only can you admire & purchase pieces she has already created, you can also request to have a piece made of your very own! I love how passionate Larissa is about making custom pieces, selecting the perfect crystals and wrapping them up with her customers distinct sense of individuality in mind.
And her Instagram @crystalsbylars , is chock full of inspiration. Not only does her page display that work she's crafted, but the way she photographs her jewelry amongst the beauty of nature as her backdrop, is a reason to stop & stare. Be sure to give her a follow!
